1st Team Win to go Top of Division 2
Chapel hosted Buxton knowing victory would put them top of the table with rivals
Whaley
Bridge having no game. After winning the toss and electing to bat first the hosts made an excellent start to their innings with James Hawtin and Joe Jackson putting on 100 for the first wicket. Hawtin was first to fall for 58 but
Jackson continued to make a fine 74. Contributions down the order including 34 not out from Neil Pheasey saw Chapel amass 211-7 from their overs with Nick Smith taking 4-68 for Buxton.
The Bucks reply never got going with Hawtin (3-34) and Pheasey (5-14) sharing 8 wickets. The visitiors were bowled out for just 98 to ensure an early finish as Chapel went top of the league. In the final game of the season Chapel travel to Buxworth knowing a victory will secure the league title.
Poor Batting Display lets 2nd Team Down
Chapel made the short trip to Buxton and the home side won the toss and elected to bat first. John Stanway took 2 early wickets dismissing Belfield and Cafferky but a steady partnership between the young and old pairing of
Griffin and Holder steadied things up for Buxton. Youngster Griffin fell for 22 with the score on 78 and Holder also went for 34 as the Bucks stuggled to attack the tight bowling of Jordan Pickering (2-38), Sean Critchlow (8-2-13-0) and Will Gratton who returned to clean up the tail and finish with 4-28. The innings eventually closed in the final over with Buxton 153 all out.
In reply Chapel made a good start to their innings with Tom Kelly and Richard Topham putting on 40 for the first wicket before Topham was caught for a valuable 21. However this sparked a middle order collapse as Chapel lost 8 wickets for just 30 runs. Kelly made 32 but he fell at just the wrong time and if it weren’t for Pickering (11) and Gratton (17) down the order Chapel would have been left with no batting points. The visitors were left 102 all out with the accurate pairing of Slater (3-35) and Hawley (4-37) proving the match winners for the Bucks who gained promotion following this victory.
